Research Veterinarian

Research Veterinarian
Qualifications
Required: Candidates must hold a D.V.M. degree from an accredited school of veterinary medicine, be accredited, and possess an active veterinary license (preferably from the State of Illinois). Candidates should have a strong interest in research, specifically in drug discovery or infectious disease. Preferred: Board eligibility or certification in lab animal medicine, pathology, toxicology, or pharmacology and/or board certification in one of these specialties. Experience in research (Master’s Degree, publication record, or employment at a preclinical CRO) is highly desirable.
Position Description:
IITRI has a hybrid position for a research veterinarian. The successful applicant will report to the Attending Veterinarian and will have duties split between laboratory animal medicine (LAM) and drug discovery and safety testing (DDST). In LAM, the individual will provide veterinary care and develop procedures and policies to address the health and welfare of a variety of species, including rodents, rabbits, minipigs, and primates, and serve/participate on the facility IACUC. In DDST, the individual will serve as a large animal (dogs, primates, and minipigs) study director on preclinical toxicology, safety and efficacy studies to treat human and animal diseases. In this role, the veterinarian will be responsible for preparation of study and animal use protocols, supervision of technical and scientific staff involved in the studies, data interpretation for study reports, and interactions with and reporting of data to study sponsors. There is potential for advancement, and depending on interest, there is opportunity to work toward board eligibility in toxicology or in laboratory animal medicine.

Animal Caretaker

Experience Required:
- Animal caretaking experience in a business environment: 1 year (Required)
ESSENTIAL JOB DUTIES
- Performs routine and simple laboratory activities, including the cleaning and maintenance of equipment and facilities.
- Responsible for the daily cleaning, feeding, and handling of laboratory animals.
- Handles periodic rotation of animals to clean cages, cleaning and sanitization of animal housing rooms, and operation/maintenance of cage washing equipment.
- Assists the technical and professional staffs as needed with physical examinations, obtaining body weights, or other testing procedures of laboratory animals.
- Maintains food and bedding inventories, and supplies.
- Learns and applies correct laboratory procedures.
- Develops an understanding and knowledge of both experimental procedures and research project activities. Applies and demonstrates this understanding and knowledge in laboratory work.
- Communicates effectively.
- Complies with security procedures in the performance of duties.
Schedule:
- Monday – Friday, 8 hour shift
- Weekends as needed

Associate (GLP) Quality Assurance Auditor

Associate (GLP) Quality Assurance Auditor
This position is in support of regulated research and is responsible for performing study and facility inspections, audits/reviews of study protocols, laboratory procedures, study data, reports, and facility records to assure compliance with internal standard operating procedures (SOPs), study protocols and Good Laboratory Procedure (GLP) Regulations. Responsibilities include assuring integrity of data collected during laboratory studies and that good documentation practices are followed throughout the study process. The individual should be detail oriented. The individual in this position will interact with study scientists, technical and nontechnical staff, other auditors, and study sponsors.
Candidates must have at least 2 years’ experience in a GLP quality assurance or quality control (QA or QC) capacity and understand basic laboratory techniques. Strong interpersonal, verbal, and written communication skills are required. At least a bachelor’s degree in a scientific discipline is required. Quality certifications are a plus: SQA’s RQAP-GLP, ASQ CQA.
A security clearance may be required after employment.
