Senior Contract Specialist

IIT Research Institute (IITRI) is a Chicago-based research and development organization focused on the biomedical sciences. We provide laboratory-based drug discovery and non-clinical development services to pharmaceutical, chemical, and biotechnology companies worldwide, as well as to the National Institutes of Health (NIH), Department of Defense (DoD), and other branches of the federal government.

We are currently seeking a Senior Contracts Specialist to join our Business Operations team. This person will be responsible for participating in the preparation of various responses to Requests for Proposal (RFP), Requests for Information, Contracts, and Subcontracts of varying levels of complexity. This position will participate in proposal cost strategy, coordinate special rate calculations, Grant submissions, review and negotiate terms and conditions of various Federal Government and Commercial Contracts & Subcontracts. Assurance of compliance with all applicable Government regulations, company policies and procedures, as well as compliance with the terms & conditions of each contract. Act as liaison between research department personnel and other IITRI departments, including financial operations, purchasing, security, and human resources on contract related matters.

 

 Required Skills

  • Bachelor’s degree from accredited college or university
  • Minimum of 8 years contracts administration experience (commercial & public sector)
  • Knowledge of Federal regulations, government cost accounting standards and federal regulations; strong familiarity with the full range of types; e.g. FFP, CPFF, CPAF, Time and Material and federal and commercial awards
  • Ability to work with oversight while drawing upon knowledge of FAR, DFARS and other agency specific supplements to successfully develop responses and positions agency requests
  • Provides contractual guidance to business team members for appropriate Statement of Work. Manages contract change control process
  • May assist in new business pursuit and associated contract strategy
  • Assists in identification, development, and implementation of new contract policies and procedures
  • Possesses a general understanding of the business case and an appreciation of financial/analytical issues and profit and loss implications
  • Strong interpersonal communication skills including superior writing skills
  • Demonstrated proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite (i.e. Excel, Word, PowerPoint, etc.)
  • ERP Systems experience

Desired Skills

  • Master’s degree preferred
  • NCMA and/or IAWCC Contracts Certifications
  • Existing Security Clearance
  • Prior experience with Grant Submissions
  • Prior experience working in the Pre-Clinical Research & Development Environment.

Chemists - Multiple positions

We are looking for multiple Chemists to join our IITRI team. All positions require impeccable attention to detail.

– 1 person for Bioanalysis: BA with 5 years of LC-MS/MS method development experience or MS with 3 years of LC-MS/MS method development experience or Ph.D. with 2 year of LC-MS/MS method development experience.

– 1 person for Dose Formulation Analysis: BA with 5 years of HPLC method development experience or MS with 3 years of HPLC method development experience

Lab Biologist - Toxicology

Due to expansion, we are seeking multiple Lab Biologists for our Toxicology Division. This position works under the supervision of a Study Director and Technical Supervisor to provide support with collection, analysis, interpretation, and evaluation of data from pre-clinical studies of biological activity of chemical and physical agents.

Methods and techniques used will include those from the disciplines of toxicology, zoology, anatomy, and related fields. These techniques include the routine handling of animals (in vivo studies) including non-human primates, dogs, rabbits, rats, mice, etc.; administration of test agents; collection and entry of observational data; and collection of biological samples for analysis. We require a bachelor’s degree in Biology or related field or equivalent experience. Experience handling laboratory animals or animals in a veterinary environment is a plus.

Lab Biologists must be open to some overtime and weekend work, on a rotational basis, depending on the study being conducted..

Local candidates strongly preferred; no relocation is available for these positions.

Animal Caretaker

Due to expansion we are looking for an animal caretaker to join the IITRI team. Animal Caretakers will be responsible for the daily cleaning, feeding, and care of assigned research animals. Perform routine and simple laboratory activities, including the cleaning and maintenance of equipment and facilities. Animal caretakers handle periodic rotation of animals to clean cages, cleaning and sanitization of animal housing rooms, and operation/maintenance of cage washing equipment. Caretakers assist the technical and professional staffs as needed with physical examinations, obtaining body weights, or other testing procedures of laboratory animals and maintain food and bedding inventories, and supplies. In this research environment caretakers learn and apply correct laboratory procedures and develop an understanding and knowledge of both experimental procedures and research project activities. Caretakers comply with security procedures in the performance of duties.

Candidates must have up to 1 year of animal handling, feeding, and general animal husbandry experience. A High school diploma is required.

ANIMAL FACILTIES SUPERVISOR

QUALIFICATIONS

• High school diploma or GED.
• Assistant Laboratory Animal Technician (ALAT) certification and five years of experience within an research animal facility, OR Laboratory Animal Technician (LAT) certification and three years of experience, OR Laboratory Animal Technologist (LATG) certification and three years of experience, OR Certified Manager of Animal Resources (CMAR) and two years of experience.

• Familiarity with animal welfare regulations under the sponsorship of the US Department of
Agriculture (USDA) and the US Public Health Service, and Good Laboratory Practices (GLP) regulations as they apply to both the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) and the Food and
Drug Administration (FDA) preferred.

• Familiarity with the operation and maintenance procedures for animal cage and rack washing equipment.

• Understand the husbandry requirements of a variety of species including rats, mice, dogs, and nonhuman primates.

• In rare circumstances, education and/or experience requirements may be decreased or waived if the individual has an extraordinary educational background or uniquely applicable experience or highly specialized knowledge.

• Must be able to lift 50 pounds, push up to 200 pounds and stand for extended periods of time.

GENERAL DESCRIPTION
Supervises and coordinates the activities of Animal Caretaking staff. Oversees animal care and maintenance of the animal facilities. Maintains facilities in compliance with all applicable laws and regulations concerning the use of research animals. Trains IITRI animal care staff on applicable SOPs and animal husbandry. Responsible for providing employee performance evaluations for supervised personnel. Required to wear a pager and be available after hours in the event of emergency. Employees in this classification may be required to work with, take specific precautions against and/or be immunized against potentially hazardous agents. Weekend work hours required.

ESSENTIAL JOB DUTIES

Supervises operation of the animal facility and animal care staff. Required to supervise animal care personnel, technical support, animal care and husbandry, disease control and animal disposal. Coordinate and assign work schedules for animal care staff. Delegates and checks work, assures that the facility is maintained in strict adherence to SOP’s. Assures disciplinary measures are fair, consistent and prompt.
Prepares employee performance evaluations, approves biweekly time sheets.

Provide technical support and animal related services. May provide surgical assistance, drug administration, tissue sampling, sentinel testing and other clinical procedures, when applicable, as necessary to maintain a healthy animal colony. Provides animal related services to other divisions within IITRI and provides advice/assistance to investigators using these services to ensure optimization of time, effort, and expense.

Provides t echnical training to departmental staff and research staff. Must train animal care personnel and research technicians in animal husbandry, animal handling techniques, and the humane care and use of animals. Purpose of training is two-fold: first to familiarize all personnel using animals with proper techniques and second to prepare the animal care staff for AALAS certification.

Ensures Animal Facilities are properly maintained. Maintain facilities in a manner to assure continued accreditation by AAALAC, remain in compliance with all regulatory agencies and assure capability of meeting future research needs.

Maintains a working knowledge of supplies and equipment. Manages resources to meet the demands of studies in the facility, and orders supplies when needed.

Husbandry, Procedure and Facility improvements. In consultation with the Section Head of Laboratory

Animal Medicine, devise and upon approval, implement new procedures which represent improvements over existing procedures.

Maintains Continuing Education Credits. Maintain proficiency in specialized fields by reading, attendance at scientific meetings and personal contacts with investigators both within and outside IITRI.

Performs other related duties or responsibilities as requested or required. Exhibits a willingness to assume additional duties; seeks the guidance of the supervisor prior to beginning an unfamiliar assignment.

Lab Biologist - Inhalation Toxicology

Due to expansion, we are seeking multiple Lab Biologists for our Inhalation Toxicology Division. In this division lab biologists work on studies that measure the effect of inhalation of various materials like gases, fumes, smoke, etc. on various animal models. Experience working in a GLP environment and handling small laboratory animals from a vets office, pet store, or lab work at school is a plus. Recent Biology Bachelor and Associate grads welcome to apply.

Technical Writer

The main responsibility of the Technical Writer is generating technical reports for pre-clinical studies by compiling/tabulating study data and preparing comprehensive narrative under the supervision of the Study Director/Principal Investigator. Accurate and consistent reports must be produced within allotted timelines by working effectively with word processing and report compilation tools and the company’s data management system. Additional duties may include editing/proofreading standard operating procedures and manuscripts. The Technical Writer interacts frequently with peers, the senior writer, lead scientists, laboratory technicians and quality assurance auditors. Key abilities include exceptional attention to detail while working concurrently on numerous projects. A Bachelor’s degree in an appropriate discipline is required (scientific disciplines preferred), along with experience editing and preparing technical documents. Applicants must possess superior editorial and analytical skills and must be capable of using/learning various data processing and management tools, including Microsoft Office, Adobe Acrobat DC, and statistical analysis software.

Associate Biologist - Post Doctoral

 

Post-Doctoral or Research Scientist

IIT Research Institute (IITRI) is a prominent Chicago-based research and development organization focused on the biomedical sciences.  We provide safety assessment and efficacy testing and advisement to pharmaceutical, chemical, and biotechnology companies worldwide, as well as to the National Institutes of Health, Department of Defense, and other branches of the federal government.

To support the continued expansion of our research programs, IITRI is currently seeking an individual to join our Microbiology & Molecular Biology Division. This individual will serve as a Study Director and/or Contributing Scientist of GLP-compliant immunological and other in vivo and in vitro experiments.  Responsibilities include planning and performing experiments, supervising laboratory technicians, and preparing data reports.  Will maintain current sponsor relationships, and work with our Business Development group to expand research programs.

The successful candidate will have a Ph.D. in Immunology, Microbiology, Virology, Molecular Biology or other related area.  Recent doctoral graduates and post-docs with appropriate technical experience are encouraged to apply.  Must have experience with ELISA, ELISpot, Flow Cytometry and similar technologies.   Experience with planning and performing experiments with pathogenic organisms under bio-safety level 2 and 3 conditions is desired. 

Must have excellent writing and presentation skills.  US citizenship or Permanent Resident status is required for this position.  Security clearance may be required.  Background check will require submission of fingerprints and personal information to the U.S. Department of Justice, pre-employment and random drug screening, and vaccinations.

Financial Analyst

 

Financial Analyst

The Financial Analyst will play a critical role in the accounting and finance team while gaining a broad understanding of organizational operations. The role will expose the analyst to both project finance and control as well as financial planning and analysis. The analyst will work on department and project budgeting, financial forecasting, revenue recognition, and dynamic management reporting on both commercial and government contracts.

 QUALIFICATIONS

  • Bachelor’s degree in business, finance, accounting or related field and at least three years of progressive experience
  • Strong Microsoft Excel skills as well as having the desire and ability to quickly learn new software applications. Deltek Costpoint and Cognos experience a plus
  • Understand financial analysis principles and a solid understanding of financial statements
  • Strong grasp of Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP) and knowledge of the cost accounting standards (CAS)
  • Effective written and verbal communication skills with ability to communicate company practices internally to all levels of employees; and externally to vendors & auditors
  • Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to collaborate with business operations team members and across all research related divisions

ESSENTIAL JOB DUTIES

  • Evaluating variance and performance analyses of financial data and KPIs and effectively present findings to project management
  • Prepare monthly reporting presentations for the executive team and board of directors using various tools including MS Excel, Word, and Powerpoint
  • Take part in the monthly close process as needed, particularly surrounding revenue recognition on projects and generating revenue adjustments on an as-needed basis
  • Utilize the Cognos tool in Deltek Costpoint and MS Excel to create custom and ad-hoc reports to inform management decision making
  • Create project and department budgets during the annual budgeting process and on an ongoing basis; load budget data into the Costpoint planning module
  • Work directly with scientific staff such as Study Directors to help them understand their financial performance and areas of improvement in their groups and projects
  • Collaborate with Contracts and Operations on pricing various proposals for both commercial and government projects including FFP, Cost Plus, and T&M contract types
  • Analyze and approved purchase requisitions in the ERP system to ensure proper coding and cost collection
  • Ability to learn other skills and assist other team members as needed
  • Performs other duties as assigned
