Senior Contract Specialist

IIT Research Institute (IITRI) is a Chicago-based research and development organization focused on the biomedical sciences. We provide laboratory-based drug discovery and non-clinical development services to pharmaceutical, chemical, and biotechnology companies worldwide, as well as to the National Institutes of Health (NIH), Department of Defense (DoD), and other branches of the federal government.

We are currently seeking a Senior Contracts Specialist to join our Business Operations team. This person will be responsible for participating in the preparation of various responses to Requests for Proposal (RFP), Requests for Information, Contracts, and Subcontracts of varying levels of complexity. This position will participate in proposal cost strategy, coordinate special rate calculations, Grant submissions, review and negotiate terms and conditions of various Federal Government and Commercial Contracts & Subcontracts. Assurance of compliance with all applicable Government regulations, company policies and procedures, as well as compliance with the terms & conditions of each contract. Act as liaison between research department personnel and other IITRI departments, including financial operations, purchasing, security, and human resources on contract related matters.

 

 Required Skills

  • Bachelor’s degree from accredited college or university
  • Minimum of 8 years contracts administration experience (commercial & public sector)
  • Knowledge of Federal regulations, government cost accounting standards and federal regulations; strong familiarity with the full range of types; e.g. FFP, CPFF, CPAF, Time and Material and federal and commercial awards
  • Ability to work with oversight while drawing upon knowledge of FAR, DFARS and other agency specific supplements to successfully develop responses and positions agency requests
  • Provides contractual guidance to business team members for appropriate Statement of Work. Manages contract change control process
  • May assist in new business pursuit and associated contract strategy
  • Assists in identification, development, and implementation of new contract policies and procedures
  • Possesses a general understanding of the business case and an appreciation of financial/analytical issues and profit and loss implications
  • Strong interpersonal communication skills including superior writing skills
  • Demonstrated proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite (i.e. Excel, Word, PowerPoint, etc.)
  • ERP Systems experience

Desired Skills

  • Master’s degree preferred
  • NCMA and/or IAWCC Contracts Certifications
  • Existing Security Clearance
  • Prior experience with Grant Submissions
  • Prior experience working in the Pre-Clinical Research & Development Environment.

Inhalation Toxicology Division Manager

IIT Research Institute (IITRI), a Chicago-based biomedical research and development organization, is seeking an accomplished aerosol scientist or toxicologist to lead our Inhalation Toxicology Division.  Responsibilities include:

  • provide scientific and administrative leadership to inhalation toxicology programs and divisional operations
  • serve as Principal Investigator for government and industry programs in inhalation toxicology
  • collaborate with scientists within and outside of IITRI to perform interdisciplinary programs involving inhaled materials
  • mentor, develop, and motivate divisional staff to ensure effective project management and performance
  • develop and implement short-term and long-term plans for divisional growth and to meet budgetary goals
  • partner with the IITRI business development team to expand sponsorship of inhalation programs.

This position requires:

  • a Ph.D. with 10+ years of experience performing in vivo safety and efficacy assessments of drugs, biotechnology products, and other materials in a GLP environment
  • board certification in toxicology (D.A.B.T.) strongly preferred.
  • a proven track record of extramural (government or commercial) research funding.

Academic scientists with a history of NIH funding, and CRO or industrial scientists with a demonstrated record of productivity are especially encouraged to apply.

Lab Biologist - Toxicology

Due to expansion, we are seeking multiple Lab Biologists for our Toxicology Division. This position works under the supervision of a Study Director and Technical Supervisor to provide support with collection, analysis, interpretation, and evaluation of data from pre-clinical studies of biological activity of chemical and physical agents.

Methods and techniques used will include those from the disciplines of toxicology, zoology, anatomy, and related fields. These techniques include the routine handling of animals (in vivo studies) including non-human primates, dogs, rabbits, rats, mice, etc.; administration of test agents; collection and entry of observational data; and collection of biological samples for analysis. We require a bachelor’s degree in Biology or related field or equivalent experience. Experience handling laboratory animals or animals in a veterinary environment is a plus.

Lab Biologists must be open to some overtime and weekend work, on a rotational basis, depending on the study being conducted..

Local candidates strongly preferred; no relocation is available for these positions.

Lab Biologist - Inhalation Toxicology

Due to expansion, we are seeking multiple Lab Biologists for our Inhalation Toxicology Division. In this division lab biologists work on studies that measure the effect of inhalation of various materials like gases, fumes, smoke, etc. on various animal models. Experience working in a GLP environment and handling small laboratory animals from a vets office, pet store, or lab work at school is a plus. Recent Biology Bachelor and Associate grads welcome to apply.

Lab Biologist - Microbiology & Molecular Biology

Due to expansion, we are Looking for Microbiology & Molecular Biology (MMB) Lab Biologists who are passionate about science and research.

MMB Lab Biologists at IITRI will be involved with working on the in vitro side of research (PCR, cell cultures, ELISAs, genetic toxicology), as well as candidates must be open to doing in vivo work with a wide range of animal models – having animal handling experience is highly desired.

General molecular techniques experience like cell staining, extractions, PCR, protein assays is also a plus. Excellent pipetting technique essential on single or multichannel instruments. Experience in flow cytometry is highly preferred.

A Bachelor’s Degree in Microbiology or Molecular Biology is required. Candidates with Master’s degrees with appropriate experience, especially flow cytometry, are highly encouraged to apply.

Most schedules are Monday through Friday but this position requires Lab Biologists to be open to 24/7 work. When we have projects going on they need to sometimes work off hours. Typically this is scheduled on a rotational basis. Position is eligible for paid over-time, and there will be some over-time required.

Must have a passion for research and understand what that entails.

Animal Caretaker

Due to expansion we are looking for an animal caretaker to join the IITRI team. Animal Caretakers will be responsible for the daily cleaning, feeding, and care of assigned research animals. Perform routine and simple laboratory activities, including the cleaning and maintenance of equipment and facilities. Animal caretakers handle periodic rotation of animals to clean cages, cleaning and sanitization of animal housing rooms, and operation/maintenance of cage washing equipment. Caretakers assist the technical and professional staffs as needed with physical examinations, obtaining body weights, or other testing procedures of laboratory animals and maintain food and bedding inventories, and supplies. In this research environment caretakers learn and apply correct laboratory procedures and develop an understanding and knowledge of both experimental procedures and research project activities. Caretakers comply with security procedures in the performance of duties.

Candidates must have up to 1 year of animal handling, feeding, and general animal husbandry experience. A High school diploma is required.

Business Development Associate

This self-motivated individual would be accountable for generating new business in an assigned regional territory and meeting established gross revenue targets. Responsible for frontline sales activities and generating new revenue through the internet, email and cold calling. Will generate new sales prospects and develop potential customer base to market various contract research services (i.e. toxicology studies, infectious disease/select agent testing, biotechnology). Works from the Chicago IITRI office (if local to Chicago) or home office, but will travel extensively throughout the territory.

  • Implements overall marketing strategies, plans and programs as directed.
  • Assists in assessing market positions.
  • Assists in the development of the annual marketing plan. Is responsible for achieving the annual goals, contributing to growth, financial management, and expansion of IITRI’s markets. 
  • Stays abreast of IITRI’s technical developments/services and develops potential customer base to market new products and services to.
  • Develops and recommends marketing plans for potential customers.
  • Monitors market conditions and adjusts strategies and plans to meet changing markets and competitive conditions.
  • Ensures effective and timely communication with management and technical staff.
  • Gathers new research ideas and evaluates their potential for follow-up proposal efforts.
  • Assists with proposal projects.
  • Prepares well-written reports and proposals.

 Must have experience selling preclinical services or comparable high-tech product/service with a long sales cycle. Basic technical understanding of IITRI’s service areas is needed. Must be able to travel 50%+ within assigned territory.

Technical Writer

The main responsibility of the Technical Writer is generating technical reports for pre-clinical studies by compiling/tabulating study data and preparing comprehensive narrative under the supervision of the Study Director/Principal Investigator. Accurate and consistent reports must be produced within allotted timelines by working effectively with word processing and report compilation tools and the company’s data management system. Additional duties may include editing/proofreading standard operating procedures and manuscripts. The Technical Writer interacts frequently with peers, the senior writer, lead scientists, laboratory technicians and quality assurance auditors. Key abilities include exceptional attention to detail while working concurrently on numerous projects. A Bachelor’s degree in an appropriate discipline is required (scientific disciplines preferred), along with experience editing and preparing technical documents. Applicants must possess superior editorial and analytical skills and must be capable of using/learning various data processing and management tools, including Microsoft Office, Adobe Acrobat DC, and statistical analysis software.
