Narayanan Rajendran, PhD, is the Vice President and Manager of the Inhalation Toxicology Division at IITRI. Dr. Rajendran received his BS degree from India (Engineering) and MS and PhD degrees in Engineering Sciences (Aerosol Science) from the State University of New York, Buffalo, NY. His research activities are in the areas of aerosol generation and measurement, and the characterization of test atmospheres for inhalation toxicology studies including: therapeutic aerosol generation and monitoring for inhalation studies; cigarette smoke generation for inhalation studies; smoke aerosol characterization; and particle deposition studies in human respiratory tracts. Dr. Rajendran has designed and developed aerosol/vapor generation systems for inhalation toxicity studies that employ powder dispensers, metered-dose inhalers, or flash evaporators. He has served as Principal Investigator and/or Project Manager on numerous multi-disciplinary and multi-million dollar projects including a multi-year testing program with a contract value over $60 million for an industrial client. Dr. Rajendran has published more than 65 research papers, abstracts, and patents in the areas of inhalation toxicology, pulmonary deposition, aerosol science, filtration, generation and monitoring.
